Here are the specs of my mac and the airport card:Ĭard Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x89)įirmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.16) I think mine may have a old firmware version installed that limits it to a/b/g support but i cant find anywhere to get the updates. I have done research and it says it had 802.11 n support as well but mine does not. The only issue is for some reason it says it only has 802.11 a/b/g support. My mac pro 3,1 did not have a airport card installed so i took the one out of my 2,1 and it worked fine. I thought this new development would be of interest to other people who experienced the same issue.ĪirPort Extreme Wifi Card Firmware Updates I have a mac pro 3,1 and a mac pro 2,1. The 5GHz band of my new router seems to compensate this issue a bit. So basically, I think this reinforces the idea that Apple somehow changed their driver under Catalina 10.15.7, which makes their wireless chipsets not so efficient at catching the wifi signal with the standard 2.4GHz band. If I switch the router to 2.4 GHz only, then the problem of poor and unstable wifi signal resumes. However, it only works on the same floor of the house, and for as long as I am still not too far away from the router (I haven't changed the position of the router in the house). If I activate the 5GHz capability on it, the wifi connexion using Apple's internal wifi chipset does not drop as much and starts to be more reliable. Interestingly, I recently changed my router for a new one which has both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands capability. Until Apple released Catalina's update 10.15.7 My previous router only had 2.4GHz capability and my Macbook Pro's wifi used to work fine throughout the house and in the garden with only 2.4GHz. None of the subsequent Apple updates released for macos Catalina fixed this problem. Here is the former discussion.Īs I mentioned in that previous discussion, I resorted to buy a USB wireless adapter to compensate for Apple's broken wifi driver. I thought I would revive the discussion about the 10.15.7 macos Catalina update making the wifi connexion unstable or unusable. Functions are limited but very useful.Catalina update 10.15.7: problems with Internet connection but router with 5GHz band seems to help Hi, In conclusion, this product is simple but very ideal for users whether you're not that knowledgeable about this software or if you're an expert in this. You can also have an option for adding customization of your profile along with the option for encryption. The biggest advantage of this tool and software is that it brings the much needed automated features that include a connection, so you don't have to involve or bring a network administrator to set up diverse protocols to have an internet connection be set up, so it makes the setup process that much easier for people to use and set up a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection for their devices. It runs on Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 along with Windows Vista and XP and it's completely free to download. This software is freeware for PC or laptop's that are running the Windows 32 or 64 version of Windows. You can always connect more devices to the network but you will have minor challenges with it but nothing that isn't that hard to work around. But the biggest point and selling feature of this product is definitely its ability to allow users to have a Wi-Fi base station that can create a Wireless Network and manage your USB devices such an external hard drive or a printer that is attached to the Airport device. An update was recently pushed out that fixed issues for the Utility randomly quitting. One thing that most people wouldn't know or realize is that the supported languages are diverse as Dutch, English, Spanish and a various amount of other languages are supported for people. One thing that this product does very well is that it will allow you to configure and manage your Airport Express using dual bands that are all under the 802.11n software.
